Prepare well
A good one preparation is half the battle, especially in winter. Plan your route with plenty of charging points along the way – for your battery, but also for you! Then you can treat yourself to a nice hot chocolate or cup of coffee to warm up again, if the weather is bad.
Protect the battery of your electric bicycle
The battery of your e-bike is sensitive to cold and moisture. A cover can provide a solution for this. If you have a removable battery, keep it indoors as soon as the temperature drops below freezing at night. If you don't do this, the cold can cause condensation. Preferably place your e-bike in a well-insulated garage and make sure that you continue to charge it regularly, even if you use it less. When charging, it is also better not to let the battery cool down too much: it is better to do this in a shed than in the open air, as it is much faster.
Protect yourself
Keep yourself warm too! Wear multiple layers clothing to be prepared for anything: a cardigan or sweater over a shirt, with a good water-repellent winter coat on top. In winter, always put a pair of warm gloves in your (water-resistant!) bicycle bag, with a good grip on the inside. The most important piece of clothing is a hat or cap, because most of the heat leaves your body through the head. Don't forget your sunglasses, otherwise the low-hanging sun can blind you. Take a microfiber cloth with you in your bicycle bag to wipe your saddle, battery and handlebars dry after a shower. A saddle cover is also useful, if it is wet after a break it can go straight into the bicycle bag.
Be highly visible
Make sure you're good visible are. In the winter months it gets dark earlier and even in rain or dense clouds you are much less visible as a cyclist. Wear clothing with reflective pieces and check your bicycle lights again.
