Protect your bicycle battery against theft
The popularity of bicycles, especially electric bicycles, is growing rapidly. Unfortunately, with more bicycles on the road, the risk of theft also increases ( e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular with thieves ). A valuable part of an e-bike is the battery, and properly securing it is important to prevent it from being stolen. Here are simple measures to effectively protect your bicycle battery against theft.
Invest in a good lock
Choose a bicycle lock approved by the ARTfiets Foundation, preferably with at least two stars. A solid lock makes it considerably more difficult for thieves to gain access to your bike and its valuable battery.
Use a battery lockout system
Some e-bikes have built-in battery locking systems. If your bike does not have this, consider purchasing a separate system. These systems ensure that the battery is securely attached to the bicycle and cannot be easily removed without the correct key.
Remove the battery during long-term storage
If you leave your bike unattended for a longer period of time, such as during a holiday, remove the battery and take it with you. This way you prevent theft and make your e-bike less attractive to thieves.
Use a GPS tracker
Install a GPS tracker on your e-bike or battery. This way you can track the location of your stolen bicycle in real time, which can be valuable in recovering it.
Use camera surveillance
Park your bicycle in places with camera surveillance. Criminals prefer to avoid locations where they can be filmed. Camera images can also help identify and track down the perpetrator.
Register your bicycle and battery
Register your bicycle and battery with local authorities or online bicycle registration platforms. The serial number of both the bicycle and the battery is crucial. Registration increases the chance of finding your bicycle in the event of theft.
Use at least 2 locks
To prevent theft, it is a good idea to lock your bicycle with at least 2 locks. In addition to the U-lock, you can add an extra chain lock. This makes your bicycle better secured and the chain lock makes it a lot more difficult to take the bicycle with you.
Park in monitored areas
Place your bicycle in a guarded bicycle shed or in busy places. This makes theft less attractive to criminals.
Park your bike without worries
By investing in quality locks, locking systems and modern technologies such as GPS trackers, you can significantly reduce the risk of your bicycle battery being stolen. Taking preventive measures is not only wise to protect your e-bike, but also to ensure the convenience and pleasure of cycling safely. Be proactive in securing your valuables and enjoy your bike rides worry-free.
