De juiste bandenspanning voor je camper
The right tire pressure for your camper

With the camper you travel from one beautiful location to another. It is therefore important that the tires are in good condition, so that you can enjoy your freedom without any worries. In this blog we explain how to inflate camper tires. And what the recommended air pressure is.

Recommended tire pressure for campers

Camper tires are specially designed to withstand heavy loads. There are two types, recognizable by the marking on the side of the tire: C (Commercial) and CP (Camper Pneus). For both types of tires, an air pressure between 4.2 and 4.8 bar is usually recommended. Good tire pressure improves driving performance, saves fuel and increases safety. If the air pressure in the tires of your camper is too low or high, this increases the risk of a blowout.

Camper tires at 5.5 bar? NB!

The instruction manual of some campers recommends driving with 5 bar on the front axle and 5.5 bar on the rear axle. Do not blindly accept this advice: always check the maximum permitted pressure stated on the side of the tire. Most CP tires can be inflated to 5.5 bar. However, it is recommended not to do this. During driving, the tires become warmer, causing the air pressure to rise. If the tires were already inflated to the maximum beforehand, you run a greater risk of a blowout. Especially if you travel long distances in warm weather. It is therefore wiser to inflate the tire to slightly below the maximum permitted value.

How do you inflate a camper tire?
It is important to inflate your camper tires correctly. But what is the best way to inflate these tires? In the steps below we will tell you how to do this in the best way.

  1. Check the maximum air pressure

Check what the maximum allowed air pressure is. For tires on the front axle, the recommended pressure is slightly lower. Make sure that the tire pressure is the same per axle.

  2. Connect the hose from your pump to the valve

Connect the hose from your pump to the valve and check the tire pressure. If the air pressure is too low, you need to inflate the tire.

  3. Note the pressure gauge

Does your pump not turn off automatically when the desired pressure is reached? Then pay close attention to the pressure gauge. If the pressure has become too high, you will need to bleed the tire slightly.

  4. Repeat the steps

Repeat these steps for the other tires – including the spare wheel.

Tip: Only inflate your tires when they are 'cold'. In practice, this means that you have not driven for at least 2 hours.
