The correct tire pressure for your trailer
Are you going out with the trailer? Then make sure that the trailer tires have the correct pressure. This improves driving comfort and road safety. In this blog we provide an overview of the correct pressure for each tire size. We also explain the best way to inflate a trailer tire.
Tire pressure table for trailers
The tire pressure for a trailer is often higher than that for a car, because the trailer has to carry more weight. The recommended pressure is stated on the side of the tire. The air pressure is expressed in bar or psi. Does your pump use a different unit than stated on the tape? Then use the following rule to convert to the recommended value: 1 Psi is 0.0689 bar. Conversely, 1 bar equals 14.5 psi. Always check the tire pressure when the tire is cold.
The correct pressure depends on the size of a tire. In the table below we have listed the recommended air pressures for different tire sizes.

How do you inflate the tires of your trailer?
- Unscrew the cap from the valve.
-
Connect the hose from your pump to the valve.
Depending on your pump, you may need an adapter.
-
Read the tire pressure on the display of your pump.
Is the air pressure too low? Then inflate the tire until the gauge shows the correct pressure.
- Disconnect the hose (and possibly the adapter) and screw the cap back on the valve.
Advantages of good tire pressure on a trailer
A trailer is mainly used to transport a heavy load. To be able to carry this weight, the tires must of course be hard enough. In addition, tire pressure has a major influence on the grip and handling of the trailer. If there is sufficient air pressure in the tire, the trailer will be easier to steer, drive more economically and respond better when braking. The correct pressure also ensures that the tires wear out less quickly and the chance of a blowout is lower. It is therefore important to check the air pressure of the trailer tires at least once a month. Then check the profile at the same time, so that you can drive safely.
