The correct tire pressure for a Vespa
Want to hit the road with your Vespa without any worries? Then make sure your scooter tires have the correct pressure. This increases your safety and saves maintenance and fuel costs. In this blog we explain to you what the most optimal tire pressure is for your type of Vespa.
Benefits of good tire pressure
Correct tire pressure ensures that you enjoy riding your scooter - whether it is a Vespa or another brand. Are your tires too soft? Then they have more rolling resistance, which means that your Vespa steers harder and you use more fuel. Your braking distance will also be longer. In addition, soft tires wear out faster. You then run a greater risk of a blowout. By the way, it is also not good to over-inflate your tires. This makes your tires narrower, giving you less grip on the road surface. Also important: rock-hard tires reduce damping and therefore your driving comfort.
Check your tire pressure
A rubber tire is never one hundred percent airtight. Over time it will naturally lose tension, even when you are not riding your Vespa. Therefore, check the air pressure every month. Do this when the tires are cold, so before you hit the road. After all, when you drive, the tires heat up and the pressure increases on average by 0.2 bar. Do you want to inflate the tires immediately after a long drive? Then add 0.2 bar to the recommended air pressure. When the tires cool down, the pressure automatically drops to the correct value.
How do you inflate the tires of your Vespa?
- Screw the cap onto the valve.
-
Almost all Vespa tires have one Schrader valve .
Depending on the connection options of your pump, you may first need to screw an adapter onto the valve.
- Connect the pump.
-
Check the tire pressure.
Is the air pressure too low? Then pump until the gauge shows the correct pressure.
- Remove the pump and, if necessary, the adapter and screw the cap back on the valve.
